Acupuncture:

Each acupuncture treatment is tailor-made for your needs and the treatment strategy is based on the original diagnosis as well as how you are on the day of treatment. It may be, for example, that the condition you wanted treatment for originally has improved, and during the days before a treatment you experienced extreme stress for other reasons. This can be taken into account during the treatment and the energy be rebalanced accordingly.

Stimulating specific acupuncture points may affect the functioning of certain functions in the body. However, those points may not be close to the part of the body where the problem is experienced. For example, although you may suffer from particular imbalances near the top of your body, the needles may still be inserted in your foot or hand. There are around 500 such acupuncture points on the body. I will use a selection of perhaps two to four points or as many as ten or twelve of these for each treatment. It is quite usual for different points to be selected as your condition changes during a course of treatment.

Cupping:

A vacuum within a cup is created by means of inserting and removing a burning piece of cotton wool. This cup is then applied to the patient's skin and left in place or moved across the skin for a few minutes. In TCM cupping is used to relieve what is called 'stagnation' and is often used in the treatment of conditions which are worse with cold or damp weather.

Clothing:

It is helpful to wear loose, comfortable clothing for your treatment and you should be aware that I may need access to points on your torso as well as on your arms and legs. Clothing is only removed if there is a need to access particular areas of your body.
